When travelling in mainland China, a “Zhongshan Road” can be found in almost different cities. Statistics suggest an interesting fact that there are over 187 roads named after “Zhongshan” in China and “Zhongshan Road” is usually the most prestigious area in the city. No wonder some have said, “The number of Zhongshan Road in China is equivalent to the number of cities in China.”
However, the roads cannot beat the city of Zhongshan for its uniqueness. It is the only city named after Dr Sun Yat-sen in China. Zhongshan is the hometown of Dr Sun. Therefore, it is full of historical traces related to him. There is also a range of poetic attractions in Lingnan style for you to explore.

Visiting the Tourism Area of Sun Yat-sen's Hometown and Sun Wen Memorial Park allow you to know about the life of Sun, revolutionary activities and the related historical sites. If you walk into the Zhongshan TV and Film City, you would even feel as if you are travelling back in time to different historical events. Want to experience more about Lingnan? You should then visit Zhan Garden, the largest classic private garden in Southern China. How relaxing and amazing it is to be surrounded by mountains and waters! Back to Qijiang river in downtown Zhongshan, you can take a ride on the colourful Binjiang Huancai Ferris Wheel next to the river and enjoy the mesmerising nightscape of Zhongshan.

The average temperature over the year is 24°C. July is the hottest month, with an average temperature of 29°C; January is the coldest month, with an average temperature of 15°C. The average monthly rainfall is around 97.8 mm.
The official currency of Zhongshan is Yuan Renminbi (CNY).
The official language of Zhongshan is Putonghua. Cantonese is also widely spoken.
You may find dragon dance and lion dance performances in most of the cities in Guangdong Province. However, only in Zhongshan that you can enjoy a crane dance show
Moreover, during Renri, which means everyone’s birthday in China, the local people celebrate it by making birthday porridge with fish, chicken and duck for breakfast. They also make birthday dishes with different ingredients such as peanuts, lotus seeds and lily.
Lingnan’s food culture has long been described as “Having every ingredient that the world has”, usually do not use spice to keep the original taste of the ingredients.
Zhongshan cuisine is delicate. There is a great variety of ingredients used. You can find a wide range of snacks here. "Jidi" congee (with lean pork, pig's liver and pig's kidney), braised pigeons and Sanxiang rice noodles are the must-try.

Bus: There are different bus routes running in Zhongshan. Fare for most of the regular rides is RMB 2. You can enjoy a fare at RMB 1.5 using "Zhongshan Tong" (a reusable contactless stored value smart card for Zhongshan’s transport system). The announcements are made in both Cantonese and Putonghua on most buses.
Taxi: Taxis are available in the city, with RMB 8 as the starting fare.
