Nursultan
Nursultan is a young capital city. Nursultan, previously Astana (meaning the capital in Kazakh), was an ordinary rural village in middle Kazakhstan. In 1997, it took a leap forward and became the country’s capital. Since then, skyscrapers were built one after another, creating the Nursultan today. With its rapid development, the capital has become the most modernised metropolis in Kazakhstan in which many residents have chosen to move in that contributed to the rapid progress of the capital and surprised for many people.
Nursultan has a vast flat plain, which is the best testing ground for possibilities and creativity of modern architecture. There you will find the pyramid-shaped Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, the Chupa Chups-shaped Bayterek Tower, and even the Central Concert Hall in the shape of a blossoming rose, all built of glass and reinforced concrete. The inclusiveness embraced by the country stimulates creativity and frees it from the constraint of the fixed building structure. Because of its creativity, Nursultan successfully held the Expo 2017, the theme of which was the country’s rich energy. Participants from around the world were stunned by the creativity and prosperity of Kazakhstan.
On 23 March 2019, Astana was renamed Nursultan, in memorial of the country’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. No matter what the name of the capital is, people there remain warm, melting the snow of this second coldest capital in the world. After the Expo 2017, they are more than ready to welcome visitors from around the globe who can then witness the beauty of the country.
