Turkey
Straddling between Europe and Asia, Turkey functions as a pivotal hub for shipping and aviation in Eurasia. Turkish Airlines, the country’s national flag carrier airline, operates flights to the largest number of passenger destinations in the world. Many fought over this Eurasian land for its advantageous geographical location. The Greeks even used a wooden horse to enter and conquer Troy, an ancient city in today’s northwestern Turkey. It was known as “the Procession of the Trojan Horse'' in Greek myth. Two global empires were built on this land, namely the Byzantine Empire (also referred to as the Eastern Roman Empire) and the Ottoman Empire, entrenching on Europe, Asia and Africa. It left in World history a far-reaching impact.
Not only does Turkey possess a unique geographical location, but also numerous beautiful landscapes and significant landmarks. Mount Ararat, which has been revered as a sacred mountain by Armenians and many Christians, is actually located in the Islamic Turkey. It welcomes a ceaseless stream of pilgrims every year. Apart from lofty mountains, there is also flowing water, like the energetic Düden Waterfalls that impresses many. The rugged rocks and hot balloons all over the sky in Cappadocia, and the snow-white travertine terraces in Pamukkale are two stunning landmarks in Turkey. The colourful hot balloons, and the romantic limestone “castle” make the two national attractions “regulars” on social media and travel magazines.
From the memorial hall and the castle in Ankara, to the mosque and the central avenue in Istanbul, together with many beautiful sceneries, Turkey is a dream destination for travellers. The mesmerising Islamic architectures, cultures, and extraordinary landscapes are all the reasons to fall in love with this nation.
